Brompton approached PB Powder Coatings with a clear challenge: develop a distinctive Cerakote finish for its T Line Ceratech range that could be delivered consistently across production components without compromising the tight tolerances required for assembly.
Working closely with the Brompton team, we developed a controlled process covering preparation, masking, application, curing and inspection — turning an initial coating requirement into a repeatable production solution.
The project is a strong example of what we do best: understand the component, understand the requirement, then build the right finishing process around it.
Brompton’s folding system depends on precise interfaces: hinges, pivots, latches, bearing seats and threaded features must operate smoothly and consistently. On assemblies like this, coating is not “decorative”; thickness control and masking discipline become engineering-critical.
At the same time, the Ceratech finish is a premium product cue. Brompton describe the deep colour as being achieved through thin layers of Cerakote, with the end result expected to look and feel high-end as well as durable.
Phillip Henschke is our Senior Design Engineer who worked closely with us on bringing this project to life: “Working closely with PB Powder Coatings, we achieved the high-performance Cerakote finish for our T Line Ceratech in both Black and Gold versions.” “The Cerakote finish, applied by the PB Powder Coatings team in the UK, delivers durability and style to our T Line Ceratech product.” - Phillip Henschke
Our processes are built around controlled preparation, repeatable application, inspection and documented quality checks, with the flexibility to align with customer-specific and OEM requirements.
For tolerance-sensitive, repeat-production or audited work, we can adapt inspection, traceability and process controls to suit the specification and level of risk involved. This can include coating-thickness checks, batch traceability, consistency checks and agreed inspection requirements.
We are also experienced in working under NDA where required, allowing commercially sensitive, confidential and development-stage projects to be handled with the appropriate discretion from initial trials through to repeat production.
The outcome was a premium Cerakote finish that supported Brompton’s product positioning while meeting functional demands typical of a folding performance bike. From PB’s perspective, the tangible operational gains of a controlled process were:
If your product has tight tolerances, assembly-critical interfaces or brand-critical aesthetics, PB Powder Coatings can align to your manufacturing requirements and provide a process-led finishing solution. If you need supporting documentation (e.g., finish standards, inspection approach, repeatability controls, sample approvals), PB can supply this during quotation and onboarding, tailored to your specification and audit expectations.
